Austrian Para Alpine Skiers Already Familiar with Sakhalin Slopes

Австрийские паралимпийцы уже знакомы со склонами СТК «Горный воздух»
The Austrian Para alpine ski team has arrived in Sakhalin to participate in the Sakhalin-2020 World Para Alpine Skiing World Cup.

Among those who will defend the honour of Austria are Thomas Grochar, Nico Pajantschitsch and the Paralympic medallist from PyeongChang 2018 Markus Salcher.

So far, only two athletes have arrived, with Thomas Grochar expected to land in Sakhalin on February 13.

"I have already been to Sakhalin before. Two years ago I was here at the Far East Cup. At the time I was very pleased with the slopes of Gorny Vozdukh - the organizers did an amazing job. Hopefully the World Cup will be even better this time," said Markus Gutenbrunner, head coach of the Austrian team.

The athletes plan to focus on downhill in their initial training sessions.

The Sakhalin-2020 World Para Alpine Skiing World Cup will be held from 9 to 21 February. About 40 athletes from 10 countries are taking part in the sports event.
