Austria has applied to participate in the World Para Alpine Skiing World Cup final "Sakhalin-2021". Last year, the Austrians presented three athletes at the World Cup, this year there are already seven of them. Thomas Grochar, Nico Pajantschitsch, and the winner and medalist of the Paralympic Games in Sochi and Pyeongchang Markus Salcher, will come to the island for the second time. It should be noted that at WPAS WC “Sakhalin-2020”, he won seven medals.
The Austrian national team also includes Matteo Fleischmann and the Aigner family, represented by sisters Elisabeth and Veronika and their brother Johannes. The Aigner family has five children. All of them are passionate skiers and have already scored at national and international competitions. Three of them will come to Sakhalin. Veronika and Johannes suffer from visual impairment. At first, Veronica was skiing without a guide, but when her vision deteriorated, she turned to her older sister Elizabeth for help. In addition, Matteo is Johannes' guide.
Recall that the World Para Alpine Skiing World Cup final is scheduled in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk from February 21 to March 8 this year. It will be held on the slopes of the ski resort “Gorny vozdukh”.
